Pretty Foundation Strong Women Series: Jane Lu
Jane Lu is the founder and CEO of Showpo, an online fashion retailer she started in 2010 from her parent’s garage. Today, Jane has successfully grown the business into a multi-million dollar global empire. Jane took some time to speak with us about how her family has inspired her and what she would tell her younger self.
In one sentence, explain to us your career title and what you’re responsible for?
I am the Founder & CEO of Showpo. Everyday is different but generally a good mix of planning, meetings and getting it all done!
How important was your childhood in shaping who you are today?
Very. My parents were brave enough to leave their careers, family and friends in China as they wanted me to have more opportunities. So when people tell me I’m ‘brave’ for starting my own business, I tell them my parents taught me everything.
How do you manage self doubt, and/or negative words from others?
It spurs me on to prove them wrong. Or I just ignore them.
How do you deal with being in the public eye? Do you feel more pressure to look or act a certain way?
No not really, what you see is what you get – I like to be as authentic as possible!
If you could give advice to your younger self and to your female friends, what would it be?
It doesn’t matter how many people do what you do, no one can do it like you, so be bold and be brave.
